Our painted doors are hardwood frames with HDF center panels. It would be worth emphasizing this as "the best of all worlds" construction vs. the all-MDF construction most of the competition uses on painted styles. The wood frame is harder and holds hinge screws better. But the HDF panel is super flat, great for painting, and doesn't warp/crack like wood can. Our HDF (high-density fiberboard) is denser than the industry-standard MDF (medium-density fiberboard).
Our wood grain doors do NOT use thermofoil! They are made from TFL (thermally-fused laminate) but have all those same benefits listed. More on that below:

Our Painted Door Collection is made from high-density MDF (medium-density fiberboard) with a smooth, primer-ready surface. MDF is the preferred substrate for painted finishes because it resists grain show-through and accepts paint evenly.
Thermally-Fused Laminate (TFL) doors use a resin-saturated decorative paper fused to a textured, composite substrate. The paper is printed with beautiful wood grain patterns that matches the texture of the substrate to create an incredibly realistic wood grain texture. The resin coating is super durable, and with no peeling/heat/moisture risk like Thermofoil has.
No. Our wood grain collections utilize Thermally-Fused Laminate (TFL) due to this material's ability to achieve repeatable, consistent hues and pleasing grain patterns on every single part. Mother Nature makes every piece of wood "unique" — not what many people desire in today's cabinet trends.
Rigid Thermofoil (RTF) is a vinyl film, vacuum-pressed and glued to an MDF substrate. It is the standard "cheapest possible" door construction — offered by many other door manufacturers. The vinyl itself is very durable, but the edges often peel away the vinyl and the core swells when exposed to heat or moisture (near ovens, sinks, and fridges). CabDoor stopped offering this type of door in 2015 because we couldn't stand behind the poor quality results over time..... "We wouldn't put it in our house!" It also does NOT replicate a natural wood texture.
